My services are flexible and can be tailored to your individual needs. I am available as a birth doula at hospital births and an assistant midwife or doula at homebirths in Marin, Sonoma, the East Bay and San Francisco. I generally work in partnership with another experienced doula based close to your home to provide the best coverage for your due date window, labor and birth. As a birth doula, my basic care package includes:
Three home visits (usually two prenatal, one postnatal) of 60-90 minutes each, shared with a partner doula when applicable
Unlimited phone and email contact for questions during pregnancy and after the birth
24-hour on call services from your 37 -38th week until the birth
Uninterrupted attendance during your active labor and delivery (I work with a partner doula to provide the best coverage for your needs).
Physical and emotional support for mom and partner during labor and immediate postpartum period
Advocacy for parents' labor, birth, and newborn care preferences
Photos of birth and newborn baby if desired/possible
A birth log detailing the events/story of your baby's birth
My visits may include:
A session for you and your partner with instruction in:
Breathing/Focusing/Meditative techniques
Massage, positions and movement for labor
General labor support preparation
Birth plan consultation
Suggestions to remedy common pregnancy concerns
Professional referrals
Postpartum support (everything from advice on breastfeeding to picking up supplies to doing the laundry)
Instructing you in a simple baby massage series
Labor support may include:
Resources for easing birth process such as positions, massage, acupressure, homeopathy, breathing, essential oils, vocalization, aquatherapy, herbs, visualization, meditation
Preparation of food/drink
Assistance with deciding when to go to the hospital or birth center and possible support during ride, with arrival and triage/parking process
Help caring for other children or allowing partner to take a break
Explanation of the benefits, risks and alternatives to interventions offered during labor
Advocacy for your birthing preferences and newborn care preferences
Support in facilitating postpartum bonding (skin to skin ideal) and initial breastfeeding
Care for mother in immediate postpartum period
My fee for these services is $2400-2500 depending on your location. (Planned home births are $2000).
Sliding scale, barter and payment plans can often be arranged to accommodate a variety of income levels.
I work with families within a 1-hour radius of my home, including Marin County, San Francisco, and the North and East Bay, and always with a local partner doula as well.
